It's Mill(s)er Time!

The good ole Mills from KY came for a visit during our Spring Break. Jerrel's U of L dental school was off the same week as NYU's, so both high school friends teamed up for some NYC tourism. Us wives were lucky enough to pal around with them.
I helped navigate us around the island. We saw multiple statues of liberty, Time Square, the naked cowboy, took the staten island ferry, rode the subway north, south, east, and west, saw the world trade center site, and expressed our deep love for our own neighborhood of Gramercy (see the flatiron building a few blocks from our house).
On the upper east side we toured the Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art). Did you know Lyle played the saxophone when he was a kid? I soaked up figurines and artwork from my favorite artist - Degas. See the two-person chair? You can sit and face each other. I love it!
Here is another Degas, one of many I saw. We also saw the first piano still in existence and modern art with classic Jackie O.Lyle and Jerrel were able to do the bonding. They argued over politics, sports, cars, food, and of course agreed on the craziness of dental school. Another thing they agreed on? Go grizzles (see the pic below of them next to the grizzly bear window at the Natural History Museum)!
I was just happy to spend a week with Lyle and NO SCHOOL/WORK. We loved every exhausting moment (can you tell how tired I am in every picture). Three very important things happened this week. We saw Mary Poppins - it was SPECTACULAR!. We saw a Famous Daves BBQ sign in Time Square - it opens SOON!!! Finally, we went on food tour at Chelsea Market and in the Meat Packing District - it was DELISH and we can't wait to go back to Chelsea Market to find some good eats.

One other thing we did was try to take a lot of photos TOGETHER because we never seem to. Lyle made it very easy to accomplish this simple task. Here is an attempt on day one. Don't worry, I broked him down to get a few good ones. This is simply an example of the superb amount of patience I have with him...sometimes.
We walked through central park from the MET to the Natural History Museum. The sun was shining and it was a BEAUTIFUL day. I hope to see more of those soon. The grass was just turning green in some areas. Belvedere Castle, seen below, was built in 1869, and originally was built to oversee the construction of Central Park. Boy, it's got a view! I can't wait to come back to Central Park for some serious picnics come summer.
Natural History Museum was one of Lyle's favorite spots. Even though we have a membership to the museum, we rarely get to go. Lyle soaked up every minute. Every time I said something about teeth in the museum, the boys ran to see what I was referring to. Wow, they really are turning into dentists. I was interested to document the many different species of rodents so that when we get our first intruder (hopefully never), I can call it by its correct name. Oh, and there's Lyle representin' the Caribbean exhibit, and there's the Vera Cruz exhibit (where my ancestors could possibly be from).Chelsea Market was DEFINITELY one of our favorite hot spots of the trip. Our favs from the tour were the chocolate milk, the BEST soup, the cupcakes, and the gelato. Lyle made a discovery also. He has found HIS best cupcake in the City (so far). I was just happy to see Zatarains products in "the best" seafood shop in the City. We were taught, "the shop should smell like the beach, NOT like fish". The lobsters were part of my favorite. I couldn't hold it back. I told Lyle mid-tour, "he's her lobster" (FRIENDS reference - sorry if you don't get it). After Chelsea Market, we finished the tour with seeing the Meat Packing District. This photo below includes one of the last actual meat packing shops in the Meat Packing District. Also, some of you may or may not recognize - pictured below is the building the big Ghost, from Ghost Busters, climbed. In all seriousness, this was VERY COOL to both Jerrel and Lyle. I was amazed at how excited they were about it. Do you notice what the buttons say below? They work a bedae we used in a restaurant in the Meat Packing District. It was very cool and interesting. The pool is from the top of a hotel we went to tour and the hotel is one that you can still rent by the hour. Hmmm.It wouldn't be the Mills, if they missed a basketball game when they are in town. Coinicidentally the Kings were in town. I guess the Kings are the worst in their league? Well, they DID NOT show it. Heather, Jerrel, and Lyle were all decked out in the gear and PROUD of it. Lucky for us, the Kings showed up for the game and the Knicks didn't. Twice, the Kings were up by 30 points. The final score? 121 to 94. Go Kings? MSG was very cool to experience. I was just happy to enjoy a true New York experience.
Until we meet again Mills! Bye Lyle...see you after finals at the end of May. I'll miss you!
