from blood to fire

The first week back to school, I was home for a lunch break and picked up a call from Lyle. After we talk about our days for a few minutes, I tell him I’m about to walk out the door to return to work. He THEN explains that he’s at urgent care because he sliced his finger open in lab. At the END of the phone call he casually mentions this. 5 stitches. He’s got a drop of blood on his white chucks to prove it. Oh man…I hope this is not foreshadowing how the rest of this semester will go. Besides being an annoyance to him, the finger was fine. It took him a little longer to wash his face and take a shower, but he handled it well. That is, until he got so annoyed with his stitches that he took them out HIMSELF 10 days before he was supposed to. I repeat, he could not be patient enough to go back to the DOCTOR to have them take the stitches out ON TIME. This man, I tell you. Doctor Lyle…you are not a nurse, you are a DENTIST! Finger stitches are different than the dissolvable kind in your mouth. I was his nurse after that point. I checked his finger every morning and night because I was nervous there would be an infection or the wound would open up again. Luckily skin grew underneath, the top layer fell off, and he is healing nicely. Now, we’re just hoping those nerve endings grow back.

And just so you know, he came home from lab last night with a little bit of his hair singed off the top. The SECOND mishap this time in the 3rd week of classes. He didn’t think it was a big deal, but I feel like I need to switch my prayers from success in lab to SAFETY in lab. Stay tuned for more…I’m sure there will be some.

haha... he sounds like my dad. He had a cast on his arm for a couple of hours and got so annoyed with it he got the hedge clippers and took it off himself.

Mac sliced his finger at work, and they just wrapped it up really, really tight at urgent care. He still doesn't quite have all the feeling back and that was at least 6 months ago-- here's hoping Lyle's recovery goes better!
