It was a beautiful day and I wasn't babysitting until the evening, so it was the perfect opportunity to escape our normal routine and explore. Lyle and I chose Coney Island. What can we say, we're lovers of classic boardwalks and iconic roller coasters. It just so happened that the annual Mermaid Parade
was also that day. We tried to avoid the rush of this crowd and arrived to Coney Island just before lunch.
We had a quick picnic on the beach and headed straight for the Cyclone.
This roller coaster was built in 1929. It is made of wood and very jerky. The drops were pretty good, but I'm surprised I didn't get a pounding headache afterword!
Post Cyclone, we walked around the boardwalk until we found a good spot to lay by the beach.
I guess the last time we did this was almost a year ago at Santa Cruz, but it felt like it had been ages!
We headed back to the train, but on the way got cut off by the parade. Imagine a weird type of poor mardi gras and that is fairly similar to what we saw (not a family fun event); still, it is amusing at times. After making it around the parade and back to the train, we enjoyed a sleepy hour train ride back home. Coney Island was checked off our list and we will most likely be back for some classic New York fun.
The next day on our way home from church we passed by a yarn store that always has amazing displays made out of yarn. It just so happened that it was a display of coney island, the cyclone, the wonder wheel, and more!

Looks like it was a blast!!
Awesome pictures, you really captured the spirit of Coney Island. I love all your posts and wish I could comment on them all, but the one handed typing with Blakely makes it difficult, but keep them coming. I love living vicariously through yours and Lyle's adventures, so exciting!
