#78

About ten days ago the Schofield's arrived to their new home in Louisville, KY. We moved into apartment #78 next door to a friend that mcLyle went to High School with who had moved out here a a few years ago--The Mills. They were quite the salesmen in getting us out here. Jerrel and Heather live in apartment #79...that's right NEXT DOOR. "Come and knock on my door..." is pretty much the life we lead. It's not three's company, but four. The boys have code knocks, we do out laundry over there since we don't have machines of our own yet, and the boys talk about dental school and basketball almost the entire time they're with one another.
The apartment we moved into is GREAT. It's almost 1200 square feet, has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, laundry hook ups, and a so so kitchen. We could use more counter space, but oh well. We unloaded the truck Tuesday night and started unpacking the boxes on Wednesday. We were almost completely unpacked by Thursday afternoon, and were completely cleaned and moved in by Saturday afternoon. This was SO nice. We don't have the "homey" feeling yet as I am NOT martha stuart nor do we have the money to fake it at this time.

HA HA, back there is our empty space where a kitchen table will go someday. It's another thing that's on the list.

This apartment was probably built in the 80s I am assuming from the cabinets...gotta love it!

He really is funny, right?
This is our AMAZING trash can...I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. I think they're called simple human and we've got one in each of our bathrooms as well (smaller white versions of course).
Master Bathroom (this one is mine)

Master Bedroom (bare walls, I know)

Master Bedroom (perfect mattress, perfect sheet/duvet cover set)

We've got a walk through closet that connects to the bathroom, so that's nice. The closet is PERFECT for all our stuff. The one thing I can't complain about this place is the amount of closet/shelf space we have. It's perfect!
2nd Bedroom: This has been named the Lyle Schofield reading/music studio
As you an see he has his reading chair
and he has his books and amp with microphone stand ready to be rocked out with.
The 2nd bathroom - lyle's bathroom (there are NO fights about leaving the toilet seat up in this household!)
Master Bath from the other hall entrance
Walk through closet
Balcony. We're pretty much going to leave this bare. It is WAY to hot to sit outside.

Our main focus right now is getting employed. Lyle had some interviews when he got out here, but he was "over qualified". I am picky about what type of job I would like which doesn't help us. We have both been running errands all week and applying for jobs. Lyle will most likely start something soon which will really make me look like a lazy A. I need to start getting on the ball! We've realized that even if you are organized and have done your research, the government STILL makes it very difficult for you to get residency. GRR! Things like getting social security cards, drivers licenses, and registration plates have been VERY difficult. Whatever, we're pretty much jumping through hoops to get this stuff done. All I have to say is we'd BETTER stay in Kentucky so we don't have to go through all this nonsense in the near future.

We've scouted out the gyms and the grocery stores. We haven't seen a mall yet which is sad since we've been ALL over Louisville. We've found the local music shop and I found out they have smoothie king here (thank goodness)!

OH, here's the BEST thing about where we live...lol...a train drives buy every 1.5 hours and blows its horn for at least 10 to 15 seconds (even throughout the night). Luckily we've been too tired to hear this train and hopefully it stays that way. This cracked me up though. I have now learned to zone it out and barely recognize when it's here.

What else...Lyle has learned a few things while being out in KY, and I have remembered a few things to:
  • People don't use their blinker or use common sense on the road (this is worse than Utah and it is KILLING Lyle)
  • People talk with an accent that is NOT fake and Lyle can't figure out why they do
  • Food is more expensive (even though there's no tax on grocery food)
  • Gas is cheaper (woohoo!)
  • The humidity makes it feel about 15 to 20 degrees hotter (yuck)
  • The roads don't make any sense at all, one road will turn into another road, and there are barely any signs anywhere
  • There are too many McDonalds and they are WAY too busy
  • The freeways are PACKED
  • People get all up in your business whether you want them to or not
  • Fans are the way of life in the south
  • A storm can hit an any given time
New things I have learned that poor married couples do/don't do:
  • Go out to eat once a week and spend $25 or less
  • It in for EVERY meal
  • Keep receipt for EVERY expense report so we can stay in our budget
  • Wash dishes so we don't have to waste money on utilities and dishwasher soap
  • Use every gift card we have sparingly
  • Rent movies from Redbox for free by getting the codes online
  • Clipping coupons and using them liberally
  • Playing board games to occupy our time so that we don't go out and spend money
  • Only allow ourselves 7.5 to 8 hours of sleep per night so that we are up by 7am so that we don't become lazy and so that we are prepared to wake up early when we start working
  • Buying STORE brand items
  • Being efficient with our driving so that we don't waste gas
LOL...these are a few of the things I have learned to get used to. Maybe I was spoiled or maybe I was just used to living comfortably, but I am learning my lessons now that's for sure!

Ok we're off to the gym. Let's see, I've posted my trip to Kentucky and the apartment pictures (by popular demand), so now I just have the wedding and honeymoon! Patience patience...I have not forgotten.

I love and miss you all so much!

PS. I'm all about blog-partying if thats all I can get.
