Radio City Christmas SPECTACULAR

Yesterday jump started the Christmas Season in the Schofield Home. (I could only wait so long.) We had tickets to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular courtesy of Marv & Lorna (thank you SO much for the early Christmas gift). Lyle was even acting excited (although most of it is a show to make me feel good about loving Christmas so much). We started off our night with dessert from the tres populaire Magnolia Bakery. We each had a cupcake and hot cocoa. The cupcakes were definitely better than the Sugar Sweet Sunshine bakery (the frosting was c'est magnifique), but the cocoa was mediocre. Lyle even claimed MY hot cocoa concoction I had made the night before with (of course) homemade marshmallows from Whole Foods (thanks Mom) was much better. Hands down, the hot cocoa from Max Brenner's Chocolate by the Bald Man tops them all (and yes, we will be back for more).

Where the magic begins

Radio City @ Rockefeller
During the show, they did a snippet of the history of Radio City, and it was almost shut down in the late 1970s, but NYC saved it! PHEW!
The BEAUTIFUL chandelier and decor in the grand entrance to the theater. The ones who owned the show...the Lyle and I have SO much respect for their abilities.

Two for one! Since we can't see the Nutcracker this year, this little skit would have to do. LOL...they had teddy bears performing the Nutcracker in quick little scenes. The little ballerina, Claire, was actually very good. I mean...she's probably one of the best in NYC right? The toy soldiers! They were incredible. Really, they were! They moved together and spun together...Lyle was especially amazed.
Then a little cannon came out and "shot" them. The orchestra played music along with how quickly or slowly they were falling. Does that make sense? Anyway, the domino effect took a solid 5 minutes. It was awesome.
Ever so slowly they fell into one another until the very last one quickly fell onto a pillow. SO fun!The ladies taking a tour...beginning at Radio City
Their version of Time Square...LOVE!
Central Park with ice skaters dancing on the ice.
The little boy and older brother who "didn't believe"The many Santas all over New YorkRockettes in their glory
The true meaning of Christmas
The show ended with Christ in a manger with angels and shepards and wise men all around. This was truly beautiful. It's the closest thing to Utah's Savior of the World in New York.Perfect photo ops!
now for OUR closeup

It wouldn't be Christmas without my Nutcracker and I!
Afterward, we went to Rockefeller Plaza and saw the ice rink (I had to make sure Lyle saw it). I CANNOT wait to see the different decorations for December. Here is the start.
The tree getting all ready to be decorated and lit the first week of December.
OH MY GOSH...I CANNOT wait!
P.S. We took the long way home and walked instead to enjoy the evening. When we got home we looked at the weather and wouldn't you know it was 23 F, but the "real feel" was 11 DEGREES!
Welcome Winter. Remember it is our first in New York, so be gentle!

How fun! I'm glad you made it to magnolia. My mom and I saw that location on our last day. Much more convenient than the one on Bleecker. Love you.

HI! I'm one of Lyle's old friends from the granite bay days, and I found your blog on Kari's. You guys look like you're having so much fun in NYC! Not that this surprises me, though - I can't imagine Lyle not having a party! I wish I had the chance to meet you in good ol' Provo back in the day. Tell Lyle that Becky and Dan say hello, and good luck in school! My step family are all from DC, and as we affectionately tell them - hope you survive the jungle!
