Lyle's Loupes

(pronounced LOOPS)...

Not only did NYU want us to donate a kidney for tuition and living expenses, buy a brand new computer, pay money for associations and whatnot, they also wanted us to buy a device for Lyle in his labs. In his labs, he is drilling and filling, and shaving, and all the horrible things that people are afraid to go to the dentist for. Well teeth are pretty small and if there is something that can improve the quality or speed of a dental student's skill...it would be loupes.

If you had to pick ONE thing that gave Lyle the biggest headache this semester, it would be Lab. The professors aren't very helpful, their way of hazing is to make the student feel as tiny as possible (and I quote, "this looks like crap, you should choose a new profession"), and they rarely give any constructive criticism. Hence the headaches and stress of lab. To ease this pain, we needed to buy Lyle a pair of loupes.
Some kids walked in with a "pimped out" version of loupes (light included), but all we had room in the budget at the time was an ebay version, which broke almost immediately. Lyle sucked it up and got out the superglue. He truly was a trooper. We finally broke down and bought a good pair of loupes for Lyle. He was able to use them Friday and will be able to use them for his last practical (lab exam). He was like a little boy at Christmas opening up those glasses. He tried them on, tested the light intensity, and sure enough, he thought it improved his performance in lab. I am SO happy he now has these and I feel bad that I wanted him to wait at all for the good pair.

SO funny! Ryan loves his loupes too. We waited to buy the light (it cost almost as much as the glasses), but ended up caving and buying it. When he got the light, it made it even better. They are a great investment (even though by the time they're paid off, you could have purchased 5). :)

So call me a retard or having a "blonde moment" but I read the first line of this post, "Not only did NYU want us to donate a kidney for tuition..." and I was thinking, "THEY REALLY WANTED THEM TO DONATE A KIDNEY? DID THEY DO IT!?!" I seriously read that line 3 times before thinking, maybe I should read on and then I realized OK THIS IS NOT the case THIS just means tuition is freaking off the wall expensive! I'm SOOOO retarded! I really was wondering why ANY school would want you to do that ESPECIALLY dental school! Like, is that LEGAL!?! OHHHH I'm SOOOO DUMB!!! Anyway, ASIDE from that, glad Lyle is happy with his new loupes!!!

Glad he got what he needed. Good tools make a big difference (I may be merely an artist, but it's true!).

That first picture of Lyle reminds me of that creepy game, "Operation" where the guy's nose lights up if you make a mistake. haha.

Hope you're doing well!
