Anniversary Meal

We set aside a gift card we received (thanks Larsons) for our Anniversary Dinner. We chose a restaurant, Blue Water Grill, in the neighborhood and highly rated. It’s difficult for us to venture out and try new Seafood foods, but we decided it was a nice restaurant, so it’s probably a good place to start.

We got all gussied up and walked to dinner. Lyle had reserved the Jazz room (usually NY restaurants are small, but this one has multiple rooms with different themes). The Jazz room was PERFECT with a live Jazz band in the background and the lights dimmed with a romantic ambiance.

After perusing the menu, we decided to try some of what the waitress recommended and some of our favorites (just to be safe). We started with a raw crudo topped with strawberry rhubarb. I am NOT a raw fish person, but this was actually pretty good. This particular fish had a more solid texture. Next was the seafood sampler mixed with oysters, lobster, shrimp, and clams. I started with the easy favorites. Then moved on to the oyster and clam. I went for it and swallowed the clam. Yuck! It was not something Ciara appreciated. Next up, I swallowed the Oyster (can you believe I kept going) and that was like choking on the ocean water when you get knocked over a rough wave! Ugh! It was miserable. I will NEVER try that again…EVER! Quickly I grabbed a Shrimp to “cleanse my palate” and warned Lyle what he was about to experience. Now, if I had a camera for this next experience, I could have utubed it and had MILLIONS of viewers. Lyle tried the Clam, and not only swallowed, but CHEWED it. He was trying to see what the draw to the taste of a clam was. Anyway, it was bad, but not too bad. Then he tried the Oyster. He smelled the oyster (in the freshwater shell), he ate the oyster, he CHEWED the oyster, he GAGGED (yes, in public – I thought he was literally going to puke on our table and I thought of how to hide it), then SWALLOWED the oyster. Quickly he chugged his water and ate a shrimp as fast a as he could to keep the oyster in his stomach. Now, the restaurant was hopping, so it’s not like anyone heard him, but I’m sure a person or two saw him, and saw me DYING LAUGHING. It was a moment to remember. Here we are trying new things, branching out, at a nice restaurant, and Lyle almost ruins his tie with his dinner (and those were only our appetizers).

For our entrĂ©e we both ordered fish with fancy sides. There where things in both of them we liked and disliked. They were good, but not great. Finally, dessert was up. We were well fed, but we always have room for dessert right? Lyle ordered a toffee dipped banana served with vanilla ice cream, and I ordered 2 (petites) scoops of strawberry ice cream, and one scoop of coconut. Mine was good, but Lyle’s was GOOD. Needless to say, our night was perfect. Our meal was memorable, entertaining, and thrifty. We checked off another nice restaurant in the neighborhood and got to bed nice and early.

I am so lucky to have been blessed with a man who knows how to show me a good time, and who loves me. I love you beau beau!
