Freedom Month

June is Freedom month.
June? Isn't it July? Nope. Not in this household. June is freedom month BECAUSE it is the only month of actual freedom that Lyle has from Dental School and probably from the rest of his life. With no kids, no paying job, and no school, it will be coined as Freedom month until the day we die.

We started out Freedom month in Texas. It couldn't have started off in a better fashion. We truly relaxed and enjoyed being out of the City. Once back, Lyle started his research job which is only about 35-40 hours a week instead of his normal grueling 70-80 hour weeks. A mere day later, some friends came for a visit. With said friends Lyle was able to enjoy being a tourist with them. They saw a show, viewed art galleries, and ate some yummy food. Once I flew back, it was more fun, food, and walking the brooklyn bridge (one of my favorites).

As our friends left town, we were able to enjoy even more food with even more friends in town, and I was able to get back to work and figure out my new summer schedule. Then MORE friends came into town. (Did we mention we love friends coming into town?)

As the weekend drew nearer, we made plans to enjoy the shopping of New York. I said shopping, but what I actually meant was "window shopping". We hit all the big shops, explored a few spots we hadn't yet been including just south of Central Park and just east of central park. We walked up Madison and down 5th to Central Park South and down 7th ave until we had window shopped to our hearts content. Then we explored a little of the South East Corner of Central Park including a walk by the Central Park Zoo (I cannot wait to actually go back to the zoo). Finally, we stopped for a bite to eat at a nice hotel (for a burger--can you believe it)? This, we followed with a soft serve ice cream cone from...you guessed it...Mr. Softie, then the train home and a movie just before we hit the hay.

Saturday we woke up, hit the gym, and enjoyed our neighborhood park--madison square park. There was the annual bbq fest going on and we indulged in a lot of red meat full of sauce and sides. It was superb and we cannot wait to go back next year (except next year we'll have a fastpass--no seriously). Saturday afternoon was filled with a nap and not much else. We enjoyed being lazy as the rain tapped our windows--imagine husband and wife sitting side by side on the couch with feet up and laptops on each lap, doing this or that, with an occasional "look at this" or "hello". We finished our freedom saturday with another visit to Max Brenner's Chocolate by the Bald Man and indulged in more...um...vegetables with our in town friends.

Freedom month has been quite good to us so far. As we approach the middle of the month, we hope to indulge in more new york goodies, food treats, and picnics on random Tuesday evenings, not just weekends. Stay tuned!

Did we mention we love visitors? Lyle even broke down and bought an air mattress.
