Sundays in the City

Sundays are interesting to me in NYC. We start our walk to the chapel in Union Square, and the streets are almost dead. Keep in mind it is 9:05 am that we begin this 20-25 minute walk from 1st ave & 22nd st. to 15th st. between 6th & 7th ave. We zigzag through the streets, following whatever traffic has the green light and see various things. Mostly we see trash from the night before and pet urine which is a treat that I actually get to see EVERYDAY! We also see "flea markets" setting up shop, and MAYBE we'll see a few joggers or people out for bagels and coffee.

On our way HOME, however, we see much MUCH more. We see people eating brunch on the sidewalks of the restaurants, we see tourists, shoppers, joggers, and strollers, etc. You get the picture. Well, about once a month or so, we see more interesting events such as races. We've seen multiple bike races, and I'm sure a 5k or 10k has passed as well. The best is when we see parades...this year we got to walk through the GAY PRIDE DAY parade. It was a bit ironic coming home from church and all.

I also see many different things than Lyle because I head to our Canal Branch about twice a month to teach the Young Women there. We have been responsible for these girls in addition to ours. ANYWAY, if you have ever been to China Town (had a pic for you, but it got deleted somehow), you KNOW it is crowded. There are people everywhere pushing pictures of illegal purses in your face for you to check out (especially if you are a girl dressed up for church). You learn to ignore and keep walking.

I don't mean to toot my own horn by any means, but I usually am pretty good at keeping the Sabbath. I'm not too tempted (unless I'm on vacation and Sunday is just another day--that's another story for Lyle to joke it up and tell you about I'm sure). But living in the City and passing by all these fun places to eat brunch and to shop at really tempt me sometimes. It looks so fun! Lyle reminds me that we have AC, an episode of Friends or a movie--if we're lucky--to watch, and Sunday Quesadillas waiting for us at home. I quickly change my mind, and we head home to enjoy our quiet Sunday afternoons--hands down my absolute favorite time of the week.

Have I told you that I am jealous of the city life?! Just in case I haven't, there it is again! :) I am glad to know that you have moved up in the world from Mac n cheese with hotdogs (aka, schofield special) to quesadillas! I am so proud.
