Today we enjoyed our first day of freedom (together) with a Schofield Family Day O Fun. We started out the day just like any other perfect day with the gym. We followed this by a quick trip to midtown to seek out a sample sale. This was a guy's sample sale, so Lyle wanted to check it out (what can I say, the man worships a bargain and he's pretty good at picking out his own clothes--a chore I NEED NOT worry about thank goodness). As we get to the sample sale we realize it is THE FOLLOWING WEEK! Ha! This was a good laugh. Poor Lyle was a little embarrassed, but it didn't matter to me. I enjoy venturing out into the city to do ANYTHING and I am VERY used to things not working out according to plan.
So plan B? J Crew in Rockefeller Center to make a purchase that I could NOT get out of my head for over a month! Sadly it was not on sale yet, but I was well deserving of it, so Lyle bought it for me! Happy UNBIRTHDAY to me!
From there we ate at Rockefeller Center on our way to the Mets Baseball Game. Lyle LOVES the Mets and not only because they are the flagship team for the Dominican Republic players, but also because it is so UNCOOL to like the Mets...therefore he prefers them. We luckily get on the express all the way out to Queens so it only took us a mere 30 minutes or less to get there. What do we realize upon our arrival? Here we are at the stadium 10 minutes after the game was supposed to have begun? Notice anything unusual? How about the lack of cars and crowds? Yep, it was an AWAY game! Ha! Lyle is now 0 for 2 and utterly and completely embarrassed. I cannot help myself at this point and am dying of laughter. It is so completely unpredictable for our Schofield Family Day-O-Fun...or is it?

Lyle has too much science in his brain for other things to fit...he can't help it!

What do we do instead? Lucky for us (ok, mainly ME), the US Open fairgrounds have recently opened, but tournament matches haven't begun. That means that qualifying matches and practice rounds are happening and all the booths and food and stores are open ready for spectators and tourists to enjoy....all for FREE! This it the BEST news all day (okay it was a close 2nd place next to J Crew), so we partake. We sat and watched a qualifying match, and heard some of the heckling going on from the crowds (mind you this is much different from the actual tournament matches where people PAY for tickets and show respect for the player). From there Lyle enjoyed a 3 dollar drink and a 4 dollar hot dog (classic new york prices even in Queens)

and I found a white hat to replace my dirty old running white hat. It was a GREAT afternoon and promised Lyle that we WILL attend the US Open in real form our last year in New York. I cannot wait!

On our way back it got more comical because there were NO express trains going back to Manhattan (figures), so it took us at least an hour to get back home. We broke this up with stopping to get Lyle sunglasses that I replaced for his bday since he lost his and some window shopping. Then we finally made it home. The best part of the evening? Take out so that I didn't have to cook! This started off our Summer Vacation...stay tuned for more!

That is a funny story, but it looks like you guys had a blast anyway. I would love to go to the US Open someday too!
