A walk in Harlem

We don’t have too many reasons to hit up Harlem, so the Oral Cancer walk seemed a good enough reason as any. Lyle invited me to join him on this walk. I specifically asked if it was a race or a walk. He confirmed it was a walk, so of course I accepted. The night before he reminded me we were running the race the next day (to save time), and I reminded him that we were WALKING. Sure enough, we woke up the next morning, took a train to Harlem, and RAN the Oral Cancer Walk. I’m glad we did it. (Plus it didn’t hurt that we ate Dinosaur BBQ afterward.) It was a beautiful run, but what surprised me the most were the hills! Who knew Harlem was full of them! Luckily I didn’t know that ahead of time.

Before the race started, we listened to a Harlem Church Choir sing and WOW, I thought it was amazing. Maybe it’s a common thing to hear such beauty up there, but I could have listened to it all day long. Even though the walk turned into a run last minute, I’m already excited for next year’s run and to enjoy the same experience. (Let’s not kid ourselves. I’m mostly excited for this next year to be over and to be one year closer to graduation.)
