After months of hard work here in the City (and with some stretching of the budget), Lyle and I decided to get back to our normal routine of hitting our shows of choice. I have many definitions of shows. My umbrella term covers movies, dvds, television, broadway, theater, and concerts. The shows we are referring to here are Lyle's most beloved...concerts.
When we were dating we would hit a "show" at least twice a month if not more. In fact, our first hang out even before our first date was to a show. Lyle has gone to some alone or with friends rather than myself because I just won't waste my time or extra money on certain sounds, but for the most part, we enjoy the same type of music.
To begin our 2009 tour, we saw Cursive back in March. Cursive is one of Lyle's favorite bands of all time. I don't detest cursive and enjoy a few of their sounds, so I accompanied him. To my surprise the show was pretty good and the venue even better. They played at the
Bowery Ballroom on Delancy Street which is a classic music venue in NYC. It reopened for music shows in 1997, but it originally opened in 1929 right before the stock market crashed. We got there nice and early so that we could sit at a table on the balcony right in front. Unfortunately this was a HORRIBLE day for Lyle at school and this concert and our experience pepped him up. One cool side note is that our way fun friend Lees (or Leez if you are Lyle), called to inform us that she styled (as in dressed and outfitted and hung out with) Cursive for their new music video in L.A. Way to go Lees! She knew Cursive was a sound Lyle would know and love.
Next on the docket was Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin. Remember? We saw them exactly one year ago in
Indianapolis.

Boy has time flown by. Anyway, it was definitely the BEST show I have ever seen them play. The venue was the Mercury Lounge which reminded me most of Provo. It's a dark little hole in the wall on Houston street (pronounced how-sten). That didn't stop people from cramming in to see the show. Where were we in that tiny room? You guessed it, front and center. We were as close as you could possibly be to the band until (you will never believe this) what looked like a homeless man cut in front of us. He was smelly, dirty, and was decked out in Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin gear. He had what looked like a little briefcase bag full of old newspapers mixed with posters from the band. I think I even saw him pull out a record or two. The man, who we later learned was called Francis, had no teeth, and was definitely mentally unstable. He would bust out in an "air guitar" when the band wasn't even playing a song. I felt bad for the guy, but also a little nervous. He kept looking in his bag and back at us. Needless to say, we didn't try to crowd his space to get closer to the band.

May 18 we are going to see the Shins and May 29 we are going to see Mae. I enjoy the Shins, but I LOVE Mae. In fact, Mae was the first concert that Lyle and I went on as an actual date. I bought the tickets and invited all our friends to go for his birthday soon after we met. May 29 is also the LAST DAY of my semester at work and more importantly, it's the last day of finals for Lyle. It is the last day he will be labeled a D1 (first year dental student), and he will have freedom for 4 weeks until he becomes a D2! We cannot wait! Ok, only a few weeks to go...we can do this!

I've never even HEARD of these bands! Remember in college when Kiers would download music and we'd make fun of her newly discovered band at the moment! HAHA! Now it's coming from YOU! HAHA! It's cool though that ya'll go and do that together....FOR LIFE!
You're hot!
