After our fun window shopping we again pulled out the classics (zagat and NFT). We agreed on a restaurant and ventured over to the west village. We even crossed over on Christopher Street which I think is the rainbow headquarters, and definitely felt like the minority. Once we arrived to our restaurant, we realized it had been closed! This is one of the worst feelings of all time. Seroiusly…you FINALLY decided on a place to eat and you burn all your energy in pursuit of it, and it’s closed? What? It had a good rating!? Oh well…you move forward. There were half a dozen places to eat on that street, but again, we don’t just eat anywhere and drop our hard earned (or borrowed) money! So we walked another 5 to 10 minutes to a French place called AOC. We've had yet to try any classic French restaurants here because we are quite intimidated, but we figured, if it’s open we’re eating there! Hallelujah it was! Lyle ordered a classic stew and I had some kind of pork. It was definitely a good experience and a change from the usual restaurants we choose, and Lyle didn’t need another meal afterward either, which is always a plus.

But just because we didn’t need another meal, didn’t mean we didn’t want dessert! Once out of the restaurant we decided to walk to the train and get dessert on the way home. A street or two later I got my bearings and I knew EXACTLY where we were (this is such a GREAT feeling)! We were by Yogurtland where I meet my Visiting Teachers sometimes. I took Lyle over to Yogurtland so he could see what that was “about”, and even though he thought it was “nice” we decided to head back to an ice cream shop that had a line out the door, called CONES. Let me tell you something, if you don’t know where to eat and you see a long line ANYWHERE, you GO THERE! After getting to the front of the line, we realized that Heidi Klum frequents the shop when she’s in town (hence it MUST be good right)? Well, we didn’t need Heidi’s endorsement, we knew it was golden from the first bite! We ordered one huge waffle cone with three scoops to share. Their mint chocolate chip was so intense and yet the chips were so delicate. Their banana was SO creamy, and their dulce de leche was MAGNIFICENT. Um…YES, we will be heading back to cones!

As we sat in the park eating our cone together and watched the WICKED pink/orange/red sky (post storm effect) on this warm night, I tried so hard to remember this fun, unplanned, date night. It was definitely one to remember!
