SoHo

One evening after work we ventured down to SoHo (south of Houston street)…which is an area that is mostly likely NOT to be repeated. We started from Union Square where I had a YW activity at Red Mango (yes, and only one YW showed up out of the 3). We sat and ate our frozen yogurt asking how her summer was going while Lyle explored Urban Outfitters and Guitar Center down the street. Once our “activity” was over, Lyle and I took the train to hunt for a place called Jean Shop to look at (you guessed it some jeans).

West Broadway and Broadway get confusing and sometimes are not communicated well, hence, we didn’t find jean shop. We did find, however, a TON of tourists. Soho is filled with them on Friday nights. One thing that is pretty weird, though, about New York, is that most of the retail shopping closes at 6pm, 7pm, or 8pm if you’re really lucky. We STILL forget this sometimes and try to shop in the evening and ultimately get burned.

Oh well…we opt for food in stead. But, we don’t eat just anywhere right? That’s right. And this fact usually postpones our meals (even if it makes is us more cranky). So we pull out the Zagat and the new NFT (not for tourists) book (thank you Bowerz), and plan for where to eat. We agree on a Cuban place called Café Habana. This was DEFINITELY a desired place to eat described not only by the wait, but by the TIGHT quarters inside. There must be a percent body fat limit in order to be hired as a waitress here because they were all tiny and STILL were bumping into people. After 30 minutes we were in, seated very snug, and ready to order. Lyle got the classic Cuban sandwich and I the enchiladas. The meal was somewhat quick and not very memorable.

After dinner I chose for us to walk home so that we could “connect the dots” so to speak with the neighborhoods. Let’s just say it wasn’t much to look at. It also seemed a bit dirtier than our “neck of the woods”. I still need to find Top Shop (yes, can you believe it, it has been open for months and I haven’t yet made the trip), and maybe another shop or two, but other than those, we won’t be excited to visit SoHo anytime soon (we’d call it NoHo, but that stands for “north of Houston street”.
